Tennessee Camp for Diabetic Children July 11-July 24, 2010

Welcome to the Tennessee Camp for Diabetic Children (TCDC). TCDC is located on Lake Chickamauga in Soddy, Tennessee, just north of Chattanooga. The camp is committed to teaching children with diabetes how to live a normal and active lifestyle. TCDC incorporates educational sessions into daily activities by providing fun learning programs geared toward juvenile diabetes management. Using games, hands-on assistance, and videos, campers learn procedures and techniques to use daily for achieving glucose control.

TCDC is staffed by carefully selected, qualified and responsible counselors, most of whom are diabetic. Each cabin has two counselors and all activities are supervised by counselors. Certified lifeguards oversee all water sports and provide campers Beginner through Advanced swimming instruction. The medical staff includes doctors, nurses, and dieticians from the University of Tennessee, Vanderbilt University, and Utah State University.

The facilities used by TCDC are located at the Double G Ranch in Soddy, TN. The Double G has served as home for TCDC since the late 1950's. The buildings include a main lodge with dining hall & kitchen, an infirmary, central shower house, and large open air gymnasium. There are five cabins on the girls' side and five cabins on the boys' side, each sleeping nine campers and two counselors, as well as one cabin on each side sleeping special activity staff.
